It all happened so fast that I am just now starting to realize the immense responsibilty of what I have done!! Wow what a ton of work - and this is with a "baby" that I can leave in the car when I get groceries or leave at home when I'm at work. Wow...... So here is how it all happened....
The week before the Kelowna Apple (August 22nd) I thought I would take steps into trying to find a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier (or mix) in the SPCA or shelters. I did a search and came up with one dog in Port Alberni and a ton in the States. Nobody returned my calls to the States. So, I printed off the history of the 11month old puppy named Luna (at the time) in Port Alberni. For a week I carried around her picture and thought about what she might be like. The week after the race, I made the call..... which lead to the appointment..... which lead to buying a dog crate(just in case)..... which lead to driving out to Port Alberni, taking her for a walk and falling in love with her! After spending 2 hours with her, I filled out the adoption papers and the next thing I knew I was meeting every person on the ferry who had a dog (either with them or at home). I made more friends (with her) on one ferry ride than I do all week when I am alone. Her name is Naiya and she is already teaching me how to walk the beaches (not run), smell the flowers, play nice and enjoy life - one day at a time! We start our first day of trail running training tomorrow! 3km to start......
